LUBBOCK, TX (07/16/2016) — Daniel Sandoval and Garland Peterson were killed in a Sunday afternoon wreck that left Ronald Cotton and Fabian Rios injured.
According to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), 52-year-old Daniel Cesar Sandoval (of Olton) and 43-year-old Garland Ray Peterson (of Lubbock) were killed in a three-vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of FM 179 and County Road 6520 in Lubbock, Texas.
TxDOT reported that at around 1:45 p.m., 43-year-old Garland Ray Peterson was traveling northbound on FM 179 (N. Inler Ave.) in a black Ford pickup truck when he attempted to pass a northbound white pickup truck. As Peterson was attempting to overtake, the white truck turned left onto County Road 6520 and the two vehicles collided.
At that time, Sandoval—who was traveling southbound in a red GMC pickup truck pulling a trailer—crashed into the Ford pickup truck head-on.
Peterson was killed in the wreckage. Sandoval was transported to University Medical Center (UMC), where he later died.
Sandoval’s two passengers, 64-year-old Ronald Cotton and 19-year-old Fabian Rios, were taken to UMC for treatment. They are both listed in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.
