Commentary
Details are limited at this time as the DPS continues to investigate this fatal collision. However, we do suspect that the driver who caused this crash may face criminal charges (in addition to a possible civil lawsuit filed by the victim’s family). From Google StreetView, we can see that there is a flashing stop light and a stop sign facing drivers on FM 696 as they approach the intersection with Highway 290. Additionally, StreetView does not indicate any obvious line-of-sight issues, although the most-recent StreetView images were taken approximately three years ago.
