DECATUR, TX (12/08/2016) — An accident involving an 18-wheeler claimed the life of Blake Sims on Thursday afternoon.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) identified 39-year-old Blake Sims (of Forestburg) as the victim of a two-vehicle collision that occurred at the intersection of FM 455 and County Road 2845 in Decatur, Texas.
According to DPS Sgt. Mark Tackett, at around noon, 37-year-old Preston Ferguson was traveling northbound on FM 455 in a Kenworth 18-wheeler truck, when he attempted to make a left turn onto CR 2845. During the turn, the driver of the 18-wheeler struck a Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck—driven by Sims—which was traveling southbound on FM 455.
“The Kenworth turned in front of the pickup,” Tackett said. “As he was making the turn, he couldn’t see the other guy.”
Blake Sims was pronounced dead at the scene. Ferguson was reportedly uninjured. An investigation is underway.
