In many cases, a car accident could have been avoided if one of the drivers involved had been a little bit more cognizant of the fact that there was a hazard present. If you want to protect yourself against being involved in some of the more common types of accidents, it really only takes a little bit more awareness than most people put toward the effort of driving.
1. Intersections
One of the most common areas where wrecks occur are intersections. Whenever you’re approaching an intersection, assume any drivers who are already pulled up to the lights or to the stop signs don’t see you. Even if you have the right away, make sure that you’re ready to react if one of the drivers does something unexpected.
2. Entrance Tramps
Other common areas where people get into wrecks are exit and entrance ramps. Most of the wrecks result when someone fails to yield the right of way are when someone races to try to get into the lane and the cars and up colliding. This can even happen at slow speeds. One of the easiest strategies to make sure that you’re not involved in one of these wrecks is to keep extra space in front of you whenever you’re approaching an exit or entrance ramp and whenever you’re trying to merge into traffic. If you keep a couple of car lengths between you and the vehicle ahead of you, anyone who wants to compete for the spot to the point of putting you both in danger will have plenty of room to slide into traffic. This can be of bit frustrating, because the driver is being rewarded for driving poorly, but it provides you with much more time to react to a stupid move on the part of the other driver.
3. Tailgaiting
Another common accident involves tailgating. Whenever you’re driving up on another vehicle, be sure to give them plenty of space. It’s impossible to tell when someone will hit the brakes and, in some cases, they may not be fully aware of what’s going on behind them. The best way to avoid slamming into them is to simply give them more space.
If you’ve been hurt in a motor vehicle accident by a driver who was being negligent, consider contacting a lawyer. They may be able to help you prepare a case that could win you a jury award or settlement for your pain and suffering and for your property damage.
