BURLESON, TX (01/24/2017) — A rear-end accident involving multiple vehicles claimed the life of Sofia Cardenas on Tuesday morning.
According to authorities, 4-year-old Sofia Cardenas was killed in a four-vehicle collision that occurred in the 800 block of northbound I-35W (near Alsbury Blvd) in Burleson, Texas.
Police stated that at around 7:45 a.m., the female driver of a 2014 Ford SUV rear-ended a white 2014 Honda sedan that was slowing or stopped for traffic. The Honda was occupied by a three people—a female driver, 4-year-old Sofia Cardenas, and a second 4-year-old girl. Due to the initial impact, the Honda was forced into the rear of a red 1990 Chevrolet pickup truck, which then rear-ended a silver 2014 Chevrolet SUV.
The driver of the Honda was transported to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth for treatment. Sofia Cardenas was flown via air ambulance (CareFlite) to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth, where she was pronounced deceased. No other injuries or fatalities were reported.
