NEW BRAUNFELS, TX (01/30/2017) — A fatal accident on FM 725 Monday morning claimed the life of John Carlson and injured several others.
According to authorities, John Carlson was killed following a head-on collision on FM 725 near Rolling Forks Drive in New Braunfels, Texas.
Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Larry Haecker reported that at around 10:45 a.m., Thomas Uselton was seen driving a pickup truck erratically on southbound Farm to Market 725.
“Witnesses said the truck was passing cars at a high rate of speed as it was going south on FM 725, and there were also witnesses on East Zipp that reported seeing the vehicle driving recklessly,” Haecker said.
As Uselton approached a gas station, witnesses say he drove off the shoulder, over-corrected, and veered into oncoming lanes of traffic where he collided with another vehicle head-on. The vehicle was occupied by John Carlson, Sherry Matthews, and Joseph Tacia—Matthews’ son.
Police stated that Carlson was pronounced dead at the scene. Tacia was flown to University Hospital in San Antonio, but has since been released.
Matthews and Uselton were also taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
An investigation is ongoing.
