CANYON, TX (02/14/2017) — One person was killed and another two sustained injuries after a Tuesday afternoon crash in Randall County.
According to authorities, 49-year-old Amy Cash (of Amarillo) was killed and 69-year-old Tito Viernes and 73-year-old Evangelina Reyes-Varela (both of Bovina) were injured following a two-vehicle collision on FM 2590, about two miles north of Canyon, Texas.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reported that at around 2:15 p.m., Viernes’ vehicle was traveling south on FM-2590 when Cash attempted to make a U-turn in front of Viernes. As a result, Viernes’ vehicle struck the driver side of Cash’s vehicle.
Cash did not survive the wreckage. Viernes and his passenger, Varela, were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
An investigation continues.
Commentary
Although details are limited at this time, this accident seems to have been a product of failure to yield right-of-way. We know that road conditions were not wet at the time of the accident and that no other vehicles were involved, but more information regarding this crash will likely be released once the investigation is complete.
