ROCKDALE, TX (02/15/2017) — Two men were killed and one woman was hospitalized following a head-on crash on Highway 79 Wednesday afternoon.
According to reports, the fatal accident occurred at around 12:50 p.m. (less than a mile west of Rockdale), after one driver entered opposing lanes of traffic and caused a head-on collision.
DPS troopers reported that a 2012 Dodge pickup truck—towing a travel trailer—was headed eastbound on US 79, when the driver of a westbound 2014 Ford van crossed the center yellow line and into the path of the Dodge.
The driver of the Dodge, 65-year-old Steven Pate, was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash. His wife and only passenger, 69-year-old Jean Pate (both of Carterville, IL) was transported via air ambulance to Baylor Scott & White for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the van, 68-year-old Floyd Givens (of Pflugerville), was also pronounced deceased at the scene.
