PORTER, TX (05/19/2017) — An 8th grader at White Oak Middle School has died after his bicycle was struck by a vehicle on the shoulder of FM 1314 Friday night.
According to DPS troopers, the crash occurred just before midnight on Farm to Market 1314, between Cumberland Blvd and Grand Parkway (Highway 99). Montgomery County Hospital District (MCHD) responded to the accident scene, where they observed a silver sedan facing the wrong direction with a broken windshield and a bicycle lodged under the front passenger-side tire.Next to the vehicle was the driver (a 16-year-old male) who appeared distraught while performing CPR on the victim—15-year-old Abdiel Sanchez. First responders transported Sanchez to Memorial Hermann Woodlands Hospital in “very critical” condition. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injures the following morning.
According to reports, the 16-year-old driver was allegedly traveling northbound on FM 1314 when police say he fell asleep at the wheel, left the right shoulder, and struck Sanchez and his bicycle. After coming to, the juvenile driver returned to the point of the collision where he noticed the victim lying in the roadway. Police say the juvenile’s car struck the victim’s bicycle again because the driver’s attention was focused solely on the victim at that point in time.
