MIDLAND, TX (01/09/2017) — An 18-wheeler accident on Monday morning claimed the life of Alex Ortega.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, 31-year-old Alex A. Ortega (of Midland) was killed in a 18-wheeler crash that occurred on Business I-20 at North County Road 1160 in Midland, Texas.
DPS reported that shortly before 6:00 a.m., the 65-year-old male driver of a Mack truck was traveling northbound on NCR 1160 when his truck became disabled while crossing I-20 (blocking the eastbound lanes of Business 20). Ortega, who was traveling eastbound on I-20, was unable to stop his Ford F-250 pickup truck in time and collided with the tractor trailer. Ortega did not survive the crash.
The DPS is currently investigating this collision, but say that Ortega was wearing his seat belt at the time of the collision.
