AMARILLO, TX (07/09/2015) — A two-vehicle crash injured 41-year-old Hugo Carillo Vaquera and claimed the life of 56-year-old Carlos Maldonado.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), Hugo Carillo Vaquera, 41, was injured and Carlos Maldonado, 56, was killed in a two-vehicle collision on U.S. 287 at Parsley Road in Amarillo, Texas.
The preliminary investigation indicated that at around 11:00 p.m. 56-year-old Carlos Maldonado was turning south onto U.S. 287 from Parsley Road in a 1988 Chevrolet pickup truck. Maldonado failed to yield right of way and was struck by a southbound 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche driven by Vaquera.
Maldonado was not wearing a seat belt and was transported to an Amarillo hospital where he later died. Vaquera was wearing a seat belt and was taken to a nearby area hospital for treatment.
This car accident remains under investigation.
