SWEETWATER, TX (11/03/2016) — An head-on collision on Thursday morning claimed the lives of Angela and Kenneth Harrison.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) identified 50-year-old Angela Marie Harrison and 48-year-old Kenneth Patrick Harrison (both of Big Spring) as the victims of a head-on collision that occurred on Interstate 20 in Sweetwater, Texas.
The DPS reported that at around 8:00 a.m., the driver of a westbound 2015 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck hydroplaned, crossed the center median, and collided with the Harrison’s eastbound 2014 Buick Enclave.
The couple was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the pickup truck (a 38-year-old Palestine woman) suffered critical injuries and was transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas for treatment.
At this time, authorities have not identified the driver beyond saying that he’s a 31-year-old Palestine man. The man was transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock with critical and incapacitating injuries.
An investigation is pending.
Hydroplaning was cited as a factor for this fatal collision. This area has experienced a great deal of rain recently, making road conditions potentially dangerous at normal speed. It’s important for drivers to understand that speed limits are set for optimal driving conditions, and all drivers owe a legal duty to “drive to conditions” in order to prevent an unnecessary accident.
To those affected by this tragic crash, we would like to extend our condolences.
