VIDOR, TX (05/16/2016) — A wrong way driver caused a head-on collision that left Archie Thrasher seriously injured on Monday.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) identified 60-year-old Archie Thrasher Jr. as the victim of a two-vehicle accident that occurred on FM 1131 at the Tenmile Creek bridge in Vidor, Texas.
According to DPS Trooper Stephanie Davis, at around 11:30 a.m., 24-year-old Kylie Calhoun was traveling westbound in a 2006 Chevrolet at unsafe speeds, when she lost control of her vehicle and struck Thrasher’s 1988 Buick head-on.
Thrasher was extricated from his vehicle and transported to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Texas for treatment of serious injuries. He suffered several broken bones, but is currently in stable condition.
Road conditions were cited as wet at the time of the wreck, which was one contributing factor. However, this accident was likely preventable if the driver who caused the crash had taken more care as she drove on the slick roadway. It was her responsibility to operate her vehicle more cautiously than usual, due to conditions. Her alleged failure to do so has caused an accident which has left a man seriously injured. Police have not said if the at-fault driver will be facing criminal charges.
