VAN ZANDT COUNTY, TX (11/11/2017) — A motorcyclist was killed in an accident on SH-64 Saturday evening after the driver of a pickup truck failed to yield the right of way.
According to Texas DPS, 44-year-old Brian Michal Rios (of Ben Wheeler) was riding a 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle east on Highway 64, about 2.5 miles north of Edom. As he approached the FM 314 intersection, a 2004 Chevrolet Siverado allegedly pulled across Highway 64 into Rios’ path and caused a collision at around 6:45 p.m.
The at-fault driver, identified as 18-year-old Carley Brianne Weishuhn, was reportedly traveling south on Farm-to-Market Road 314. Troopers say she stopped the pickup truck at the SH-64 intersection, but attempted to cross when she did not have the right of way.
Rios was transported to Christus Trinithy Mother Francis hospital in Tyler, but was later pronounced deceased. Weishuhn was reportedly uninjured in the crash.
