AUSTIN, TX (09/14/2015) — The victim of Monday’s auto-pedestrian accident involving a Capital Metro bus has been identified as Bethany Clark.
Austin authorities have identified 20-year-old Bethany Jai Clark as the woman who died after a bus-vs-pedestrian accident that occurred at the intersection of West Howard Lane at Metric Boulevard in Austin, Texas on Monday night.
According to police, at around 8:45 p.m., Clark was crossing West Howard Lane (in a crosswalk) when she was struck by a blue, 2009 New Flier Capital Metro bus.
The driver of the bus, 56-year-old Ronnie Calvert, turned right at a green light when he struck Clark in the crosswalk. It is unclear whether or not Clark had the signal to cross, but Calvert was cited for failure to yield the right of way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk following the accident.
Clark was pronounced dead at scene due to blunt force injuries, according to a preliminary autopsy report by the Travis County medical examiner’s office.
A short time after the auto-pedestrian accident, a motorcyclist passing the scene became distracted and rear-ended another vehicle. The yet-to-be-identified motorcyclist was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injures.
An investigation is currently underway.
