HARROLD, TX (12/17/2016) — A two-vehicle crash on Saturday morning claimed the life of one child and left four others injured.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), an 8-year-old girl was killed in a rear-ended collision that occurred on Highway 287 in Harrold, Texas.
DPS reported that at around 3:30 a.m., 32-year-old Christine Nicole Griffin (of Mississippi) was traveling northbound in a 2013 Nissan Pathfinder with four passengers: her 12-year-old son, 8-year-old daughter, 3-year-old son, and a friend.
Griffin’s Nissan was then rear-ended by a 2005 Dodge pickup truck, driven by 20 year-old Anthony Isiah Gomez (of Vernon).
Police stated that Griffin, her friend, and her two sons were transported to Electra Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Griffin’s daughter was taken to United Regional Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The child was later transported to a Dallas-area hospital, where she died shortly afterward.
Gomez was arrested and charged with intoxication assault with a vehicle.
An investigation is being conducted by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
