BEDFORD, TX (06/25/2015) — 25-year-old Colby Bozo was killed and his pregnant wife was seriously injured when the driver of a stolen car broadsided their vehicle.
According to police, 25-year-old Colby Bozo was killed, and his pregnant wife Kristen was seriously injured, after their Mercedes-Benz was T-boned at the intersection of Murphy Drive and L. Don Dodson Drive, near State Highway 183, in Bedford, Texas.
According to reports, the incident began around 11:00 a.m. on Thursday after a traffic officer saw the driver of a black Audi—later identified as 29-year-old Jason Bernard Miller—traveling eastbound at 48 mph in a 30 mph zone.
“The officer made a U-turn and turned on the lights,” said Deputy Chief Les Hawkins on Thursday. “By the time the officer made the curve toward the intersection, the crash had occurred at the intersection.”
SGT Colby Bozo, an army reservist, was crossing the intersection—with a green light—in a gray Mercedes Benz when Miller broadsided him on the driver’s side.
Authorities stated that Bozo was pronounced dead at the scene, shortly after firefighters pulled him from the car. Bozo’s wife Kristen who was believed to be six months pregnant, was flown via CareFlite to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas in critical condition. Their son was delivered three weeks early.
After the crash, police state that Miller climbed out of the Audi through the sunroof and tried to flee the scene on foot, but was caught and arrested. The Audi that Miller was utilizing was stolen in Dallas on June 17th.
Miller was treated at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital H-E-B in Bedford for minor injuries.
As of Friday, Miller is being held in the Bedford jail. He faces charges of murder, evading arrest or detention with a vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, and unauthorized use of a vehicle. Police have not said whether or not they are considering additional charges, which could include intoxication assault. Miller’s total bail was set at $1,030,000.
