15 Years After A Car Accident, He Is Laid To Rest
Officer Kevin Marceau was working an off-duty job in East Dallas when he witnessed a hit-and-run accident. Marceau pursued the suspect on foot and was struck by a passing car. That was in 1996. This past Friday, Office Marceau passed away from complications caused by his injuries over a decade ago.
Because of his selfless actions in chasing after the hit-and-run suspect – even when he was not on duty – Officer Marceau was (rightly) given a hero’s police funeral with full honors.
We can all hope to have the courage that Marceau displayed. Witnessing a hit-and-run, or any other type of Dallas car accident, can leave you wondering what action to take. While we don’t recommend pursing offenders, there are some actions you can take to help police officers like Kevin Marceau in their investigations.
- Record the suspect’s license plate number
- Write down or use a voice recorder to describe as many details of the accident as possible – as soon after the accident as possible
- Stay around – while a “I don’t want to get involved” mindset is understandable, it is not very neighborly. Take care of your fellow citizens and don’t leave the scene of the accident without talking to the police.
RIP Officer Marceau – thank you for serving your city well.
