EL PASO, TX (12/06/2015) — A drunk driver caused an accident that left killed Daniel Mendoza early Sunday morning.
UPDATE: 12/08/2015: Police have now filed murder charges against Jesus Mireles due to “acts by Mireles which were clearly dangerous to human life and led to the death of Daniel Nicolas Mendoza.”
According to authorities, 25-year-old Daniel Nicolas Mendoza died when the vehicle he was riding in slammed into three vehicles in the 8900 block of Dyer Street in El Paso, Texas.
Police reported that at around 6:30 a.m., 23-year-old Jesus Alberto Mireles was speeding in his silver 2012 Kia Forte westbound on Alps Drive when he lost control of the vehicle, entered a private parking lot, and collided with three unoccupied vehicles including two food trucks and a van.
Mireles and his passenger, Mendoza, were transported to the University Medical Center of El Paso. Mendoza died from his injuries a short time later; Mireles remains in serious condition.
Police stated that Mireles was intoxicated at the time of the accident, and that he faces an intoxication manslaughter charge.
According to KVIA news, Mendoza called 911 just prior to the crash to report that Mireles was speeding and would not let him out of the vehicle.
