Dallas, Texas — 33-year-old Darian Davis was killed and two others were injured in a late-Tuesday-night / early-Wednesday-morning (12/4/2013) accident which occurred on the on-ramp from I-35E to the Dallas North Tollway.
According to the Dallas County sheriff’s office, a pickup truck which was traveling northbound on Interstate 35E near downtown Dallas, ran out of gas, and pulled over onto the Dallas N. Tollway onramp. Two men got out of the pickup and started to push the vehicle while a female occupant remained inside and steered. Shortly thereafter (just before 2:00 a.m.) an SUV slammed the rear of the pickup truck.
Darian Davis received severe injuries and pronounced dead at the scene. The male and female with Davis suffered minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital. The driver of the SUV who struck the pickup was uninjured.
Not much information on the accident has been released as of yet, and while I flat-out admit this is purely speculation at this point, an accident so close to closing time for area bars has me wondering if alcohol played a factor. I think this accident needs to be fully investigated, including looking at the video from highway traffic cameras. The police investigation will generally not look into issues of liability. An investigation into liability factors usually occurs after an attorney has been involved.
