DALLAS, TX (06/29/2015) — A DART bus driver was struck and killed by another bus driver early Monday morning.
According to reports, a Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) bus driver was fatally struck on Monday morning at around 5:00 a.m. at DART’s Northwest Division off Harry Hines Boulevard (near Bachman Lake), where many DART drivers begin their shifts and get their routes.
Morgan Lyons, a DART spokesman, stated that the victim was outside his bus when another driver pulled out and struck him, pinning the man under the bus.
According to Mark Ball, another DART spokesman, the victim was transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where he died about half an hour later. While the victim’s name has not been released, it’s been reported that the 55-year-old man had just started working with DART this past November.
“We have hundreds of buses, hundreds of bus operators, as well as rail operators, and they’re all hearing about it now. So, it saddens the agency obviously. We certainly don’t want any of our customers to be hurt and we definitely don’t want any of our employees to ever be hurt either,” Ball said.
It is unknown if the employee was wearing a reflective jacket at the time of the incident.
The driver who hit the man is 35-years-old and has worked for DART the past 12 years. Company officials state that the man has had a clean driving record, however, he will be given a drug test and put on temporary leave, as per DART policy.
