AMARILLO, TX (04/02/2016) — Amarillo Police have identified David Lewis the victim of a fatal collision early Saturday morning.
According to the Amarillo Police Department (APD), 34-year-old David Christopher Lewis was killed in a single-vehicle accident that occurred in the 5300 block of Interstate 40 in Amarillo, Texas.
Police reported that at around 2:00 a.m., the 33-year-old driver of a black, 2009 Dodge pickup truck lost control of his vehicle as he was attempting to enter the interstate. The vehicle rolled over and landed in an embankment.
David Lewis, who was a passenger in the pickup truck, was ejected and died at the scene. The driver of the vehicle was taken to a nearby area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
APD officers believe speed and alcohol were factors in this fatal crash.
This accident is being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Squad of the APD.

Officials cited speed and alcohol as possible factors in this wreck, which means that the driver who caused this accident may be facing criminal charges for negligence and intoxication manslaughter in addition to any potential civil claims brought by the victim’s family. Of course we may have to wait for the police to finish their investigation before we learn of any formal charges.
