VAN ZANDT COUNTY, TX (05/31/2015) — A multi-vehicle crash in Van Zandt County near Canton, Texas least at least one dead and several others injured on Monday.
According to reports, a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 left one person dead and several others injured on Monday afternoon in Van Zandt County, Texas. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on I-20 near Myrtle Springs Cemetery Road (mile marker 521).
According to Trooper Jean Dark with the Texas Department of Public Safety, the wreck happened when eastbound traffic slowed down for construction and a 2006 Freightliner 18-wheeler truck towing a trailer ran into stopped traffic. The 18-wheeler initially rear-ended a 2007 Ford Escape; the Escape was pushed into a 2013 Ford vehicle; the Ford was pushed into a 2015 KIA Soul; and the Soul was then pushed into a 1998 Peterbilt flatbed truck. The Freightliner also struck a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee which was pushed into a 2007 Western Star truck towing a Wabash trailer. A 2002 Lexus was also struck from behind by a Ford F150.
The driver of the 2007 Ford Escape, 41-year-old David Brimage (of Brownsboro), was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Judge Ronnie Daniells.
The driver of the 2013 Ford has been identified as 36-year-old Rachel Brimage, also of Brownsboro. Brimage was transported to Parkland Hospital in Dallas for treatment of serious injuries. Two children in Brimmage’s vehicle were also transported to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas. A 13-year-old boy was transported with critical injuries, and a 11-year-old girl was transported with serious injuries.
The driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, 65-year-old Deborah Phillips (of Jena, LA), was taken to Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler in serious condition. All three of her passengers (72-year-old Agusta Phillips, 32-year-old Peggy Wilson, and a 13-year-old female) were all transported to TMF-Tyler in stable condition.
The driver of the KIA Soul, 45-year-old Shelley Jack (of Monroe, LA), was also transported to TMF-Tyler in stable condition.
This information is based off a preliminary report, and police continue to investigate this accident.
