AUSTIN, TX (08/20/2016) — A hit-and-run accident claimed the life of Douglas Hohenshell on Saturday.
According to authorities, 58-year-old Douglas Hohenshell was killed in a hit-and-run accident that occurred at the intersection of William Cannon Drive and Bill Hughes Road in Austin, Texas.
Police reported that 23-year-old Jesus Juarez Jr. was driving westbound on William Cannon in a Chevrolet Malibu when he struck Hohenshell, who was walking northbound in a crosswalk.
Hohenshell was transported to the South Austin Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. He later died at the hospital.
Juarez fled the scene after the accident, but was later located and arrested.
Officials are currently investigating this wreck.
Police are currently investigating, and say they suspect that the pedestrian may have been walking against traffic and disregarded the control light for the crosswalk. However, this does not negate the fact that ALL drivers are required to yield to pedestrians in the roadway. More importantly, what kind of person consciously decides to flee the scene of an accident—especially a car accident where someone has been killed?
To those affected by this tragic accident, we offer our condolences.
