ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (08/03/2017) — A single-vehicle accident on FM 1270 claimed the life of a 21-year-old Zavalla man on Thursday morning.
According to a press release from the Texas DPS, the accident occurred on Farm to Market Road 1270 (about 8 miles west of U.S. 69) in the southern part of Angelina County.
DPS officials state that 25-year-old Joseph Havard was driving a 2009 Sterling sanitation truck eastbound on FM 1270, when at about 8:00 a.m., the truck veered off the right side of the road. The driver then over-corrected to the left before swerving again and rolling over.
The sole passenger in the truck, 21-year-old Dustin Coulter (of Zavalla), was was ejected in the crash. Tragically, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Havard was transported to CHI St. Luke’s Health-Memorial Hospital in Lufkin with unknown injuries.
