COPPELL, TX (06/13/2016) — A rear-end collision on the Sam Rayburn Tollway claimed the life of Esmaeil Khajoo on Monday afternoon.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), identified 34-year-old Esmaeil Khajoo as the victim of a fatal accident that occurred along the Sam Rayburn Tollway (SRT) near Denton Tap Road in Coppell, Texas.
According to Lonny Haschel with the DPS, at around 1:07 p.m., Khajoo had stopped his maroon BMW on the left shoulder of the SRT when a black Cadillac SUV—driven by 44-year-old Zachary Runnels—traveled out of the left lane, up onto the concrete barrier, and collided with the BMW.
Esmaeil Khajoo was pronounced dead at the scene. Runnels was taken to Medical Center of Plano for treatment.
“A fatality investigation takes time due to the amount of information, interviews and the gathering of physical evidence,” Haschel said. “There is no set time for its completion.”
