DALLAS, TX (06/19/2016) — An intoxicated driver struck and killed Eunice Chavez in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Police identified 21-year-old Eunice Chavez as the victim of a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred along North Central Expressway near Knox Street in Dallas, Texas.
Officials reported that shortly before 3:30 a.m., Chavez and her friend, Abby Corchado, were headed home after attending a night club when their vehicle was struck by a pickup truck, causing them to pull over onto the island median between the lanes of the highway and the Knox Street exit ramp.
The driver of the pickup reportedly fled the scene, but both Chavez and Corchado stepped out of the vehicle in order to assess damage and speak with another driver who stopped to help.
Soon after, Chavez was struck at speed by a maroon Audi. The driver of the Audi also fled the scene, but was found by police shortly after on Skillman Street near Northwest Highway. The driver was identified as 21-year-old Michelle Davis.
Authorities stated that Davis was intoxicated at the time of the collision. She was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter and causing an accident involving serious bodily injury.
Commentary
The intoxicated driver who caused this fatal accident has already been criminally charged, and could even face civil claims by the victim’s family. What’s so maddening is the fact that someone would attempt to flee the scene after striking a human being with their vehicle. The fact that there were TWO separate drivers who fled two separate collisions is beyond comprehension.
To those affected by this accident, we offer our deepest condolences.
