FORT WORTH, TX (08/03/2015) — 81-year-old Guadalupe Palacios and 6-year-old London Pena were both killed on Monday afternoon when their vehicle was rear-ended.
According to Fort Worth Police, 81-year-old Guadalupe Palacios and 6-year-old London Pena both died on Monday after their vehicle was rear-ended on Loop 820 near White Settlement Road in Fort Worth, Texas.
Fire department spokesman Kyle Clay stated that at around 4:30 p.m., a Chevrolet Malibu was stopped in one the center lanes of southbound Loop 820, possibly due to a flat tire, when a maroon Ford Explorer Sport Trac pickup truck rear-ended the Malibu. One report states that, according to Pena’s mother, the vehicle hit a pipe in the road which caused them to stop before being rear-ended.
Palacios was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Pena was transported to Cook Children’s Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased shortly before 10:00 p.m. Both were sitting in the rear seats of the Malibu at the time of the crash.
Both drivers of the two vehicles—one man and one woman—were transported to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital and John Peter Smith Hospital, according to MedStar spokesman Matt Zavadsky. Another adult male passenger refused treatment at the scene, and according to Clay, may have been attempting to get to Cook Children’s Hospital before getting medical care for himself.
