Garland firefighter Devon Colbert was involved in a terrible car accident earlier this month in Rockwall. Colbert, age 29, was driving west on Highway 66 when a car on northbound John King Boulevard struck Colbert’s car on the rear driver’s side. Colbert was in the vehicle with his two-year-old child when the car flipped over into a nearby ditch. The child was uninjured, but Colbert sustained serious injuries to his spine. It’s unclear what the full extent of his injuries are at this time, but he is facing high medical costs already.
Colbert has been at the fire department for 14 months. Unfortunately, as a newer employee his options for sick leave and time off are limited. Firefighters are pitching in to help cover his shifts, and have put together a non-profit fund.
To help Colbert and his family make a donation to the fund in his name set up on the Garland Fire Fighters Association website.
