Back in February, we reposted a news clip about Frisco installing red light cameras on Preston Road at Labanon and Gaylord Parkway. Commuters were given 31 days to adjust their driving habits to the new enforcement – with over 470 warnings issued to red light runners during that period. At midnight this morning, the enforcement program took it to the next level.
No longer will violators receive a warning; now they will be ticketed at $75.00 per incident.
Frisco is betting that red light cameras will lower the risk of deadly intersection collisions. Officials refer back to a similar enforcement program that ran from 2005 to 2009 at two other Frisco intersections. In that instance, the number of red light citations dropped an astonishing 94.6%. Mayor Maher Maso hopes to see similar results with the new cameras.
