POLLOK, TX (11/28/2015) — A driver who failed to yield right-of-way caused a fatal accident that claimed the life of Gene Teague and injured 4 others.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), 78-year-old Gene Guinlind Teague died on Tuesday from injuries he sustained in a Saturday afternoon car accident along Highway 69 in Pollok, Texas.
DPS reported that at around 3:43 p.m., Teague was traveling southbound in a 2004 Nissan Sentra when his vehicle struck a 2007 Ford Edge—driven by 29-year-old Ashley Capps Horta—which failed to yield right-of-way and turned into the path of Teague’s car.
Teague’s two passengers, 77-year-old Lavon Hopson Teague and 13-year-old Breana Freeman, were both injured and taken to a hospital in Lufkin, Texas. Lavon Teague remains in serious condition; Freeman has been listed in stable condition.
Authorities stated that Horta and her 2-year-old passenger, Norah Horta, were injured in the wreckage. They have since been treated and released.
