MCALLEN, TX (09/01/2015) — 44-year-old Claudia Saih and 85-year-old Elias Gamboa lost their lives in a multi-vehicle crash on Tuesday night.
According to McAllen police, a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of North Colonel Rowe Street and Trenton Road in McAllen, Texas on Tuesday night claimed the lives of two drivers: 44-year-old Claudia Martinez Saih and 85-year-old Elias Meza Gamboa.
McAllen Police Department spokesman Lt. Joel Morales stated that at around 9:30 p.m., Gamboa was traveling westbound on Trenton Road (near the second Street intersection) in a Lincoln Town Car when he crossed into oncoming traffic and struck Saih’s green Plymouth Voyager head-on.
According to Police Chief Victor Rodriguez, Gamboa had just fled a previous accident involving an Audi at the intersection of McColl Road and Trenton Road in Edinburg before this wreck occurred.
“We believe he left his lane of travel and struck an eastbound vehicle almost head-on and after that spun off and hit two other vehicles,” Chief Rodriguez said.
A green Ford F-150 was also struck by Gamboa during the crash, and a Chevy Traverse was also damaged by flying debris.
Gamboa and Saih were both transported to nearby area hospitals, but were pronounced deceased early Wednesday morning.
Police continue to investigate this fatal crash.
