AUSTIN, TX (08/11/2015) – A hit-and-run accident on North Lamar Boulevard critically injured Arthur McGuire on Tuesday.
According to authorities, bicyclist Arthur McGuire was critically injured after his bike was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of North Lamar Boulevard and West Applegate Drive in Austin, Texas on Tuesday.
The driver fled the scene, but witnesses identified 22-year-old Julian Luna as the driver of the black Chevrolet pickup truck that struck McGuire.
McGuire was transported to Round Rock Hospital where he was treated for pelvic fractures and broken vertebrae. Doctors believe that he will most likely have long-lasting impairment issues.
Several witnesses reportedly followed Luna to some apartments located a few blocks away from the crash site. Police stated that they found Luna hosing down his car, possibly trying to get rid of the evidence.
According to officers, dents and scratches were found on the front right side of the truck, which were consistent with the collision.
“Shocking to think somebody would leave somebody in that physical condition, literally broken bones, unable to move on the side of the road,” said Stacy Sass, a manager for Cody Builders Supply, where McGuire works as an estimator.
Luna has been charged with failure to stop and render aid, which is a third degree felony.
