Selena Christian is lucky to be alive. The thirty-three year old mother was struck by an SUV while crossing Henderson Avenue last Friday. Thrown over twenty feet, she suffered bruises, scrapes, and her wounds required nine stitches. The driver of the SUV stopped briefly and then left the scene.
This is the hit and run in Dallas this month that Dallas auto accident lawyer Jeff Rasansky has heard about. In both instances, a person was crossing a busy street into an entertainment district when a driver struck her and fled the scene.Fox 4 news has surveillance video of the accident. It shows Ms. Christian clearly using a crosswalk and being hit nonetheless.
Thankfully, she appears to be making a full recovery. In an interview, she said she felt safe with the crosswalk being marked as a safe boundary for pedestrians. While the law favors pedestrians in crosswalks, it also expects the pedestrian to act responsibly – e.g. look both ways and don’t suddenly step out onto a busy street without warning. We should all take care when out on the town.
The driver of the white SUV has yet to be picked up by police – but since witnesses were able to record his or her license plate (Texas KZV-971), we suspect it’s only a matter of time.
It was a close call for Selena Christian. Let’s all take this as a warning to be extra careful whether we are driving or on foot.
