LONGVIEW, TX (05/06/2015) — Interstate 20 is open again following an accident involving two 18-wheelers this morning in Longview, Texas.
According to reports, a truck accident involving two 18-wheelers resulted in one injury, and caused eastbound I-20 to shut down on Wednesday morning from the Estes Parkway exit to the Eastman Road exit. The rear-end accident, which occurred around 5 a.m., completely shut down the right lane leaving only the left lane to allow traffic flow. Police say that one of the drivers was taken to a nearby hospital with unspecified injuries.
From accident scene photos, it appears that the driver of an Averitt truck rear-ended another truck from Longview Scrap and Metal. It is unknown at this time what factors may have led to the collision.
Following the truck accident, both police and the Longview Fire Department controlled traffic while a hazardous material crew cleaned up a chemical spill caused by the incident. All lanes have been reopened and traffic continues normally.
