BEE CAVE, TX (01/28/2017) — Police have identified the motorcyclist killed in a Highway 71 crash Saturday evening as James R. Holt.
Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers identified 51-year-old James Rodney Holt (of Spicewood) as the victim of a motorcycle accident on Highway 71 at Serene Hills Drive in Bee Cave, Texas.
DPS reported that at around 6:00 p.m., the 37-year-old female driver of a Cadillac SUV was traveling eastbound on SH 71, attempting to make a left turn onto Serene Hills Drive, when she struck a westbound Harley-Davidson motorcycle—driven by Holt.
Holt was ejected from his motorcycle and did not survive the accident.
Commentary
The at-fault driver in this accident has not been charged with anything at this time, however, she could face criminal charges pending the results of the investigation. This accident (as reported) appears to be attributed to a failure to yield right-of-way, which ultimately cost this motorcyclist his life. Looking at Google StreetView, Highway 71 does dip down just east of Serene Hills, but when at the stop light, there don’t appear to be any obvious line-of-sight issues.
