TERRELL, TX (07/09/2016) — John Baker died in a two-vehicle wreck on Saturday morning which also left one passenger seriously injured.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), 23-year-old John M. Baker (of Quinlan) was killed after an allegedly intoxicated driver caused an accident on Highway 80 in Terrell, Texas.
DPS reported that at around 4:00 a.m. early Saturday morning, Baker had pulled over his Ford Ranger onto the shoulder of Highway 80 when it was struck by a Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by 24-year-old Elton Hammera of Wills Point.
Baker did not survive the crash.
“Hammera was not seriously injured in the crash,” stated DPS Sergeant Kyle Bradford. “He was arrested and taken to the Kaufman County Jail where was charged with intoxication manslaughter.”
Hammera did have one passenger in his vehicle, who sustained serious injuries. He or she was flown to Methodist Dallas Medical Center. That individual’s identity or condition has not been released.
This accident remains under investigation.
