COLMESNEIL, TX (03/10/2016) — John Neyland and Jerry Herrin both lost their lives in a car accident on Thursday morning.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), 51-year-old John Neyland (Of Kountze) and 38-year-old Jerry Herrin (of Jasper) both died following a two-vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 63 near RR 255 in Jasper County, Texas.
The DPS reported that around 8:40 a.m., 23-year-old Jeffery Kiser was traveling northbound in Toyota pickup truck when he crossed into southbound traffic and struck a Ford pickup truck, driven by Neyland.
Neyland died at the scene. His passenger, Herrin, was transported to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Troopers believe that Kiser’s vehicle may have hydroplaned, leading to the crash.
This accident remains under investigation.
Recent rains across Texas have made for hazardous driving conditions. As cited by the DPS, this accident may have been caused by hydroplaning—an issue that’s common when road conditions are wet. We would like to remind drivers that operating your vehicle in the rain requires extra care, especially in areas that are prone to flooding.
