FOREST HILL, TX (07/03/2016) — Jose Cabrera was killed and one other person was injured following a two-vehicle crash on Sunday morning.
Police have identified 33-year-old Jose Cabrera as the victim of a fatal accident that took place in the eastbound lanes of the 4700 block of Interstate 20 in Forest Hill, Texas.
Authorities reported that at around 12:35 a.m., 39-year-old Joe Cody was traveling in a sedan when he collided with an SUV that carried a total of four occupants.
“Witnesses at the scene told police that the driver of the sedan was traveling at a high rate of speed, lost control of his vehicle and collided with the SUV,” police Capt. Jerry Cozby said in a Sunday news release.
Cabrera, who was the driver of the SUV, was ejected from his vehicle upon impact. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to officials, one of Cabrera’s passengers was injured and taken to a nearby area hospital for treatment. However, his or her current condition is unknown. The other two occupants of the SUV were reportedly not injured.
Cody was arrested at the scene. He was charged with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault.
An investigation is ongoing.
