MESQUITE, TX (06/01/2017) — An 18-year-old has been arrested for intoxication manslaughter after crashing into a house, killing a man in bed.
According to reports, Mesquite police were called to the 400 block of Seminary Ridge Thursday night at around 10:15 p.m. after reports of a pickup truck crashing into a residential home.
Police say that 18-year-old Steven Tutt was driving east on Eastglen Boulevard when he lost control of his 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche, hit two street signs and a tree, before plowing through the bedroom wall of a home at the corner of Seminary Ridge and Eastglen Blvd.According to family members, 42-year-old Jose Reyes was in bed at the time and was pinned between the bed and the truck. Tragically, he did not survive. His wife, 42-year-old Yesenia Vasquez Reyes, was trapped by the wreckage as she was getting out of the shower. After being rescued by first responders, she was transported to a local hospital with several broken ribs. She is currently listed in stable condition.
Both occupants of the Chevy Avalanche were uninjured in the crash. Police determined that the teenage driver was drunk and arrested Tutt on an intoxication manslaughter charge. His bond has been set at $150,000.
