ELGIN, TX (08/09/2016) — A two-vehicle truck accident claimed the life of Joseph Osbourne on Tuesday morning.
According to the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office, 24-year-old Joseph Osbourne was killed in a truck accident along Highway 290 and FM 696 in Elgin, Texas.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reported that at around 7:15 a.m., the driver of a brick truck was traveling southbound on FM 696 when it pulled across Highway 290. Osbourne—who was traveling westbound on US 290 in a Ford F-350—struck the rear of the brick truck.
Osbourne did not survive the crash.
The driver of the brick truck was transported to the University Medical Center for treatment of injuries.
This accident remains under investigation.
Details are limited at this time as the DPS continues to investigate this fatal collision. However, we do suspect that the driver who caused this crash may face criminal charges (in addition to a possible civil lawsuit filed by the victim’s family). From Google StreetView, we can see that there is a flashing stop light and a stop sign facing drivers on FM 696 as they approach the intersection with Highway 290. Additionally, StreetView does not indicate any obvious line-of-sight issues, although the most-recent StreetView images were taken approximately three years ago.
