ARCOLA, TX (10/18/2016) — An accident on Monday claimed the life of Joyce Walton and injured her 5-year-old daughter.
According to authorities, 60-year-old Joyce Walton was killed, and her 5-year-old granddaughter was critically injured, following a two-vehicle collision that occurred in the 6800 block of FM 521 (near Peach Lane) in Arcola, Texas.
Police reported that 60-year-old Ricky Richardson was traveling in a Lincoln Town Car when he crashed into a Ford Taurus head-on, driven by Walton.
“The guy was swerving really bad to the point where they thought they needed to call authorities to alert them. Apparently, he swerved a little bit to far to the right. He knew it. Tried to get back right in the direction of the road and ended up going head on with her,” one witness reported.
Walton did not survive the wreckage. Her granddaughter was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment of critical injuries.
Richardson was given a field sobriety test and was taken to the hospital for a blood draw to determine if alcohol was a factor in this collision. The investigation is ongoing.
