RIVIERA, TX (05/11/2016) — A Wednesday afternoon accident involving an 18-wheeler killed Kris Gonzalez and two children.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) identified 21-year-old Kris Gonzalez as the victim of a fatal accident happened in Riviera, Texas along Highway 285.
DPS Troopers reported that at around 3:00 p.m., the female driver of a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu overcorrected after veering off the road at a curve. The vehicle traveled into oncoming traffic and struck a Kenworth truck head-on.
The front seat passenger of the Malibu, Kris Gonzalez, along with two children—a 3-year-old girl and 2-year-old boy— all lost their lives in the truck accident.
The driver of the Malibu was flown to Christus Spohn Hospital Memorial in critical condition, according to DPS Trooper Nathan Brandley.
A 1-year-old boy, who also survived the accident, was taken to Christus Spohn Hospital Kleberg with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was treated and released at the scene.
This crash remains under investigation.
