GEORGE WEST, TX (12/12/2016) — A two-vehicle accident involving an 18-wheeler claimed the life of United ISD student Kyle Persinger on Monday.
Police identified 18-year-old Kyle Persinger (of Laredo) as the victim of a fatal two-vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 59 in Live Oak County, Texas (about seven miles east of George West).
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reported that at around 1:16 a.m., a northbound 18-wheeler attempted to make a U-turn on the highway when a southbound blue 2013 Toyota Corolla collided with the semi-trailer.
Kyle Persinger, the front passenger of the Corolla, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the car was taken to Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.
An investigation is underway.
Police have not publicly made any determination of fault, however, an investigation should offer more answers on this matter. From the narrative provided by DPS troopers, this accident may have been caused by the truck driver obstructing the southbound lanes of traffic while attempting a U-turn. The highway crossovers in this area are small, and a semi-trailer would likely have to cross several lanes of traffic at very low speed in order to make such a maneuver.
