ANTON, TX (11/24/2016) — A two-vehicle collision on Thursday morning claimed the life of Louis Martinez III.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), 24-year-old Louis Martinez III was killed in a motorcycle accident at the intersection of Lawrence Avenue and Fifth Street in Anton, Texas.
The DPS reported that shortly after 11:00 a.m., 21-year-old Truitt Pierce was traveling northbound on Lawrence Avenue in a Ford F-350 when he attempted to turn left onto Fifth Street. At that moment, a Harley-Davidson motorcycle traveling southbound on Lawrence—driven by Martinez—collided with Pierce’s vehicle.
Martinez did not survive the crash.
This accident remains under investigation.
Commentary
This accident appears to be a case of failure to yield right-of-way, yet we’re still waiting on police to complete their investigation. Right-of-way accidents are unfortunately quite common for motorcyclists, and just goes to show you how one driver’s mistake can lead to tragedy. If the pickup driver is found to be at-fault, he is likely to face criminal charges for this incident (in addition to a potential wrongful death lawsuit filed by the victim’s family).
