FORT WORTH, TX (10/4/2014) — Two people have been killed, and several others injured in an eight-vehicle accident on I-35W Saturday afternoon.
The accident occurred at around 1:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon in the southbound service road of Interstate 35W at East Felix Street (south of Seminary Drive). According to witness reports and Cpl. Tracey Knight with the Fort Worth Police Department, a maroon Toyota Avalon traveling at a high rate of speed struck the rear of a white Chevrolet pickup truck. Six other vehicles also crashed as a result of the collision. In all, eight vehicles were reportedly totaled in the car accident, with one vehicle rolling over several times.
The driver of the Toyota Avalon, 20-year-old Manuel Alvarez (of Fort Worth), was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. A back seat passenger, 32-year-old Daniel Ortega (of Arlington), was also pronounced deceased at the scene. The 3rd occupant of the Avalon (a man in his early 20s) was transported to the hospital in serious condition. Several other motorists were also injured in the accident and were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
