BRYAN, TX (06/20/2016) — Margaret Alexander lost her life following a rear-end accident on Monday evening.
Officers have identified 52-year-old Margaret Alexander of Somerville, Texas as the victim of a fatal rear-ended crash that occurred in the 8500 block of Highway 47 at Health Science Center Parkway in Bryan, Texas.
According to authorities, at around 6:30 p.m., the 16-year-old female driver of a 2013 Land Rover was traveling southbound in the outside lane of TX-47 when she changed lanes and rear-ended Alexander’s 2002 Volkswagen in the inside lane.
After the initial collision, the two vehicles spun and struck the bridge’s concrete barrier.
“You have a larger vehicle striking a smaller vehicle, and then the Volkswagen hit the barrier on the bridge,” said Bryan Police Department spokeswoman Officer Kelley McKethan. “[Alexander] was also not wearing her seat belt, so that could have been a factor. The results of the investigation should show us more.”
Police stated that Alexander was taken to St. Joseph Hospital, where she later died. The teenager was not injured.
Police are investigating this accident.
