BRYAN, TX (10/17/2016) — A wrong way accident on Monday night claimed the life of Maria Canelaria Ramirez.
According to the Bryan Police Department (BPD), 53-year-old Maria Canelaria Ramirez (of Bryan) was killed in a wrong way accident that occurred on Highway 6—near Tabor Road—in Bryan, Texas.
The BPD reported that at around 8:30 p.m., Maria Ramirez was traveling northbound on N. Earl Rudder Frwy (SH-6) when she began to exit the highway at Tabor Road. At the same time, 46-year-old Robert Spurger was attempting to enter the highway going the wrong direction on the exit ramp. As a result, Spurger’s Ford F-150 pickup truck collided with Ramirez’ Jeep Compass head on.
Ramirez was being transported to St. Joseph Hospital, but was pronounced deceased shortly before arriving.
Spurger was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter. He was also taken to St. Joseph Hospital in unknown condition.
An investigation is ongoing.
