HARROLD, TX (01/12/2015) — A wrong way driver caused a violent accident on Highway 287 early Monday morning that left one person dead, and three hospitalized.
At around 1:20 a.m. late Sunday night/ early Monday morning, police responded to a report of a two-vehicle accident on U.S. 287, about a half mile east of Harrold, TX. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the driver of a Toyota minivan was traveling the wrong way on Highway 287 (southbound in the northbound lane), when the van slammed into a smaller northbound Chevrolet passenger car.
The driver of the Chevy, 27-year-old Mario Alaniz (of Channelview), was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. His passenger was taken to United Regional Hospital in Wichita Falls with serious injuries. The driver of the minivan (51-year-old Nancy Cantu) and her passenger survived the accident and were transported to Electra Memorial Hospital in serious condition.
