AMARILLO, TX (06/23/2015) — Michael Shawn Lightfoot, 53, was struck and killed by a garbage truck driver unloading at a landfill.
Police have confirmed that 53-year-old Michael Shawn Lightfoot was killed on Tuesday afternoon after he was struck by a Waste Wranglers garbage truck unloading at a landfill located at 16250 Bezner Drive in Amarillo, Texas.
At around 3:00 p.m., Lightfoot, who one of three truck drivers at the scene, was out of his vehicle assisting another truck driver who became stuck while unloading. After the truck was freed, the driver began backing up—thinking the man had returned to his vehicle—but Lightfoot was behind the garbage truck.
The driver struck Michael Lightfoot, who died at the scene from his injuries.
An autopsy has been ordered, and the Amarillo Police Department’s Traffic Investigation Squad is investigating this incident.
